Awesome cool fun things

Today was decidedly better than all of the past 6: I tried putting in my contacts, and my eyeballs felt fine, so now being able to wear sunglasses I headed for the beach with my XC skis and the dog. A brisk ski felt incredibly good to my lazy muscles! It's supposed to snow more tonight, so I'm going to make some skiing plans for tomorrow, probably at Alpine or Squaw.  Here's a shot of the happy piglet in a blanket today, playing on the snowy beach!

Looking for further amusement, I dug up some older climbing pics and swapped one in on my blog photo collage, then added some text. I hope it looks super cool.

On another note, I was digging through photos from last year's amazingly epic Tahoe winter. I think this shot of Kit is the photo of the day with that huge pow-eating grin--hopefully the new snow will get everyone excited for the return of winter!

Pondering of the day

I stumbled upon this site on a friend's blog and found it very intriguing:

Go Kaleo

Now, I don't really subscribe to any rigid nutritional philosophy or "diet" at the moment, besides sticking mostly to whole unrefined foods and eating a rainbow of veggies and fruit, so the popularity of the Paleo/caveman movement has been very interesting to watch unfold. The idea she is promoting here is to eat whatever makes you feel and function the best, within the guidelines of real, whole foods, because everybody is different. Wow, what a concept!
Also, it contains some yummy-looking green smoothie recipes...must try some soon!

Things to do when you're sick, hooray!

Lists are kind of silly, I usually only make them when I go grocery shopping, and those are generally lost somewhere between the kitchen counter and the store so they end up useless anyhow. On day 6 of a flu/cold/sinus infection/pinkeye stuck-at-home ordeal, I'm going crazy out of my gourd, so I'm hoping as a brainstorming activity I can come up with some good ideas to hold me over till I can put my contacts back in and actually do things.
Which leads me to the question of how I got sick to begin with? I think doing things, too many things, trying to ski alpine or XC almost every day and not taking time for activities like mellow yoga sessions and just hanging out. I'm putting myself on a strict schedule of 1 or 2 days rest a week--can include climbing gym and yoga, but no skiing or long bike rides. Grrrrrrr. I forget sometimes that working as a ski instructor is quite a lot of exercise in itself and it's just so tempting to go crazy on all of my days off!

1. Dream about riding bikes
2. Internet window shop for a new bike
3. Do something like this: Homemade yoga mat bag
4. Or this: Restorative yoga
5. Play the banjo
6. Make kale smoothies (this usually only works once a day)
7. Knitting projects. Wash hands frequently so knit things don't become germy. Way fun (hint of sarcasm).
8. Ummm....work on my blog. Something I've been meaning to do for an awfully long time, it's been unfinished and generally not ready for anybody but myself to look at.
9. Just because I should be doing this right now: study for my Level 2 PSIA exam, since it's the only way I can get a raise as an instructor. I'm all over that!

Hopefully my next posting will involve actually doing cool things, like backcountry skiing or riding bikes.
